Sebastian Belliard is OMAFRA’s Soil Management Specialist for field crops in Eastern Ontario. His interests and topics of focus include soil carbon and nutrient cycling, soil structure, and soil ecology, particularly as they relate to agro-ecosystem functioning. Pursuing a systems approach, Sebastian is interested in the different factors that influence decision-making processes on farms with regards to the various aspects of soil management.
Previously, Sebastian worked as a pedologist with OMAFRA’s soil survey team, classifying soils in the Ottawa region and in Peterborough County. Before working for OMAFRA, he owned and operated a diversified vegetable and mushroom farm in Peterborough County, worked in pest monitoring, and graduated from McGill’s Macdonald Campus.
